RALEIGH – NC State had a gymnast selected as EAGL Gymnast of the Week for the first time in 2023 on Mar. 8, as Emily Shepard was selected as the conference's Week Nine honoree.
Shepard's efforts in the Wolfpack's dual meet against Rutgers were enough to earn the ninth EAGL weekly award of her career, now having collected five Gymnast of the Week awards and one co-Gymnast of the Week honor.
Shepard posted a pair of career highs against Rutgers on Mar. 4, as she registered a personal-best 9.950 on floor and a 39.550 all-around score. Her 9.950 in the Pack's final rotation helped NC State post its best floor score (49.625) since 2000, while the 39.550 all-around marked tied former gymnasts Chelsea Knight, Kelli Brown, and Christi Newton for the highest all-around total in program history.
The senior additionally matched her career high on vault at 9.900 that claimed the individual title in the event, while also firing a 9.875 on bars and a 9.825 on beam.
Furthermore, Shepard is the only member of NC State's roster to participate in all four events throughout every meet this season, and holds the program record for the most scores of 9.900+ in her career with 33.
Shepard and the rest of the Wolfpack will complete its regular season slate on Sunday, Mar. 12, as the Pack will travel to Texas Woman's University for a quad meet alongside Florida and Washington.
