RALEIGH – NC State baseball catcher Cannon Peebles added another honor to his name following his 6-for-6 performance on Saturday, earning the Golden Spikes Award Performance of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Peebles, who earlier this week was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week, recorded an all-time performance in Saturday's 21-2 win over NJIT.
Peebles posted one of the best individual NC State offensive performances ever in the win over the Highlanders, going 6-for-6 with three doubles, two home runs, two runs scored and 10 RBI. Peebles became the first NC State hitter with six hits in a single game since Brian Wright on March 11, 2001, a stretch of just under 22 years. His 10 RBI are the most by a Wolfpack hitter since at least 1999.
The Ashland, Virginia native recorded the first six-hit performance in Division I this season in Saturday's win, while his 10 RBI in a single game also ranks tied for third in all of Division I in 2023. With homers from both sides of the plate, the switch-hitting catcher became the first NC State player since Patrick Bailey (Feb. 28, 2020) to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game.
In addition to all his other single-game accomplishments, Peebles also became the first NC State hitter since Jose Torres on April 25, 2021, to hit three doubles in one game. He came up just a few steps short of NC State's first cycle since 2006, getting tagged out at third base after trying to stretch his third and final double of the game into a triple.
In the series against NJIT, Peebles went 8-for-10 with two home runs, three doubles, 17 total bases, 11 RBI and a 1.700 slugging percentage.
