
#Pack9 Splits Sunday Doubleheader at Boston College

Pack Wins Game One 12-2, Drops Game Two 8-7
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The NC State baseball team (17-7, 3-6 ACC) split its Sunday doubleheader at Boston College, posting a 12-2 victory in game one before falling 8-7 in extra innings in the series finale.
Boston College (17-5, 6-3 ACC) earned the series victory after taking game one of the series on Friday.
Game 1: NC State 12, Boston College 2 (8 Innings)
Cannon Peebles' three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning flipped the momentum in favor of the Wolfpack in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. With Will Marcy and Chase Nixon each singling to put a pair of runners on, Peebles crushed the first pitch of his at-bat over the scoreboard in right field to put NC State in the lead for good.
Jacob Cozart extended the Pack's lead to 6-2 in a five-run sixth inning, singling to right center with the bases loaded and two outs. Cozart worked the count to 3-2 before his single dropped in to score Eli Serrano III and Kalae Harrison.
The Wolfpack pushed across six more runs in the top of the eighth to secure the victory. Marcy drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 7-2. Carter Trice, who went 2-for-2 as a pinch hitter in game one, then belted a towering grand slam to left field to stretch the Pack's lead to 11-2. A two-out RBI single from Parker Nolan extended NC State's lead to 12-2.
NC State pitchers Matt Willadsen, Sam Highfill and Baker Nelson combined to limit Boston College to just two runs (both unearned) and six hits over eight innings. Willadsen moved to 3-2 on the season after pitching 6.0 innings while allowing just five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Willadsen has exceled in his past two starts, pitching a combined 13.0 innings while allowing just three runs (only one earned).
Joe Vetrano's two-run homer in the bottom of the third accounted for both of the Eagles' runs in game one. The Pack's first run of the game came via an RBI single from Payton Green.
NC State handed reigning ACC Pitcher of the Week Chris Flynn his first loss of the season. Flynn entered Sunday's game with a 5-0 record and a 0.91 ERA, earning a pitching victory in all five of his prior starts.
NC State's 18 hits in game one marked its most hits against an ACC opponent since smacking 20 hits in a 15-8 win at Wake Forest on May 2, 2021.
Seven Wolfpack batters recorded multiple hits in game one, highlighted by three-hit performances from Green and Nolan.
Game 2: Boston College 8, NC State 7 (10 Innings)
Boston College rallied from a five-run deficit to earn the split of Sunday's doubleheader and take the series over NC State, 2-1. Travis Honeyman lifted a game-winning fly ball to right field to score Peter Burns from third to walk it off for the Eagles in 10 innings.
NC State starting pitcher Dominic Fritton registered a career-high eight strikeouts and the Wolfpack offense slugged eight hits in the 8-7 setback in game two.
NC State struck first in game two with three runs in the top of the third. Parker Nolan and LuJames Groover III recorded singles to put runners at the corners with one out for Jacob Cozart. Cozart then flied out to deep center field for a sacrifice fly to give the Pack a 1-0 lead.
Chase Nixon extended NC State's lead to 3-0 with two outs in the third, doubling to right center to plate Groover III and Carter Trice.
Boston College pushed a run across in the bottom of the fourth and fifth, respectively, to trim NC State's lead to 3-2. Cameron Leary delivered an RBI single in the fourth inning before Joe Vetrano recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice.
For the second time on Sunday, NC State scored four or more runs in the sixth inning. Payton Green opened the sixth with his team-high eighth homer of the season to make it 4-2 Wolfpack. NC State then loaded the bases after Nolan pushed a bunt single to third base, putting three runners on base with nobody out. A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Groover III made it 6-2 before Cozart ripped a double down the right-field line to give NC State its largest lead of the day at 7-2.
The Eagles answered with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, trimming NC State's lead to 7-6. Peter Burns pushed the first two runs across when he recorded a two-RBI single to left field. Nick Wang then lifted a two-run homer to left field to make it 7-6. Justin Lawson entered on the mound and got the Pack out of the jam, picking off a runner at first base before getting Honeyman to fly out to right field to end the inning.
Wang homered for the second time with one out in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score at 7-7. NC State relief pitcher Baker Nelson stranded runners at first in second in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extra innings.
Boston College reliever Julian Tonghini earned the pitching victory after pitching four perfect innings in relief. Tonghini retired all 12 Wolfpack batters he faced to move to 1-0 on the season. Nelson fell to 4-2 on the season for NC State.
