Payton Green Named Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week

TUCSON, Ariz. – NC State baseball shortstop Payton Green was named a Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Green, a sophomore from Cary, had a phenomenal week at the plate for the Wolfpack. The shortstop led all NC State hitters with three home runs, eight RBI, seven hits, 18 total bases and a 1.125 slugging percentage.
Green homered twice in Saturday's 7-0 win over Belmont, finishing the day with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored and a double. The sophomore also recorded the Pack's first grand slam of the season in Friday's 11-4 win over the Bruins, breaking a 2-2 tie in the third inning with his first home run of the season.
On the season, Green leads NC State with a .481 batting average, 13 hits, 13 RBI, 25 total bases, a .926 slugging percentage and four stolen bases. He has also impressed in the field, putting away all 33 of his defensive chances so far this season.
Green was one of 18 players across the country to earn National Player of the Week honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. He was the only shortstop to earn the honor.
