Three Gymnasts Selected to Preseason Watch Lists
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - NC State Gymnastics was tied for first place in the ACC's 2024 Preseason Coaches Poll alongside in-state foe North Carolina on Friday.
The Wolfpack and Tar Heels each received a pair of first-place votes, with Clemson coming in third and Pitt rounding out the poll in fourth place.
Now tabbed preseason favorites, NC State and North Carolina will meet twice in the 2024 regular season, with the Wolfpack traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday, Jan. 19, for a dual meet and the Tar Heels making a return trip to Raleigh on Saturday, Feb. 11.
The recognition continued a run of high preseason praise for the Wolfpack program dating back to previous seasons as a member of the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL). Under the direction of head coach Kim Landrus, NC State was picked in the top three of the EAGL preseason poll in all six years of her leadership, with the program reaching that same bar in every year since 2011.
The Wolfpack received a trio of individual honors as well, with fifth-year senior Emily Shepard and graduate Chloe Negrete each being selected as members of the 2024 Preseason Watch List.
Freshman Ashley Knight was named to the league's 2024 Newcomer Watch List alongside freshmen from each of the conference's other three programs. Knight saw her first action with the Wolfpack on Dec. 17, competing on vault, beam, and floor during NC State's Red & White exhibition meet.
NC State will kick off its 2024 ACC slate at North Carolina on Friday, Jan. 19, while the ACC Championships will be held on Saturday, Mar. 23 in Greensboro, N.C.
