He was also the league leader in tackles-for-loss with 17.5, the sixth-most in all of FBS. In the 20-6 win over Miami on Nov. 4, NC State's defense they kept the Hurricanes out of the end zone to secure bowl eligibility. The Hurricanes moved into the red zone three times, but only left with three points in those three trips. That stout defensive performance marked the first time the Wolfpack denied a league opponent a single touchdown in a game since November 5, 2011, when NC State shut out North Carolina 13-0 in Raleigh.
A week later, vs. Wake Forest, the Pack allowed just one touchdown, as the Deacons scored just six total points. The 12 total points allowed in those two games marked the fewest points allowed against ACC opponents in consecutive games in over 30 years.
Gibson will now prepare the Wolfpack defense for one more test in 2023 as they get set to take on Kansas State on Thursday, Dec. 28, in Orlando, Fla., in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Kickoff is set for 5:45 from Camping World Stadium broadcast on ESPN.
