Saniya Rivers Earns Spot on Naismith Trophy Preseason Watch List

RALEIGH – NC State women's basketball guard Saniya Rivers has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2023-24 Jersey Mike's Naismith Women's Player of the Year award.
Rivers heads into her junior campaign after having been named ACC Sixth Player of the Year in 2022-23, her first season with the Pack. She averaged a career-best 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds last year, with her rebounding average pacing the team. She also led last year's squad in steals (1.8 per game) and blocks (1.0 per game).
A native of Wilmington, N.C., Rivers scored in double figures 10 times in 2022-23 and posted a season-high 22 points at No. 10 Iowa to tie as the most scored by a member of the team in any game last year. Rivers is the top scorer to return from the 2022-23 Wolfpack squad.
Rivers is among 50 candidates in contention for the 2024 Women's Player of the Year honor. The watch list will be trimmed to 30 players in the beginning of February, with the semifinalists announced on March 9 and the finalists released on March 21. The winner of this year's Naismith Trophy will be announced on March 29.
