PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Maxwell Football Club today announced that freshman Kevin "KC" Concepcion is one of five finalists up for the sixth annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award presented to the most outstanding freshman player in college football.
The ACC Rookie and Offensive Rookie of the year had a freshman season to remember for the Wolfpack as he went on to set the NC State football record for a freshman for most receptions (64) and touchdown catches (10)
Named to the All-ACC Second Team, he turned in three 100-yard receiving games in 2023 and is the only player in the FBS with 750+ receiving yards and 250+ rushing yards this season. He's the first FBS player to do that since 2021 and the first ACC player since 2015.
He ranks second in the ACC in TD receptions with 10 – the top mark in the FBS for a freshman (t14th overall). The true freshman ranks third in the ACC in receptions per game and ranks second nationally among freshmen.
Concepcion is the second Wolfpack player this season to be recognized as a finalist for a national award, joining Payton Wilson, who is up for two national honors for best defensive player in the nation.
The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award has been presented to the College Freshman Player of the Year since 2018 and is named in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout at the University of Alabama and with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL. Past winners include; Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) - 2018, Kenneth Gainwell (Memphis)-2019, Will Anderson Jr. (Alabama) – 2020, Brock Bowers (Georgia) 2021 and Drake Maye (North Carolina) 2022.
The winner of the 6th annual Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year award will be unveiled on December 29th, 2023.
