Wolfpack Sweep UVA in Final Match of Regular Season

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Wolfpack volleyball team swept Virginia (10-17, 3-14) Wednesday evening in the final match of Atlantic Coast Conference play.
The Pack started off shaky as Virginia took a 3-1 lead, but back-to-back blocks by NC State put them ahead. From there NC State maintained the lead and led by at most six points. UVA took its first timeout as the Wolfpack led 20-15, in hopes of regrouping. The Cavaliers managed to minimize the deficit to one, but kills by Amanda Rice and Martyna Leoniak gave the Pack set one, 25-22.
The Cavaliers started the second set with momentum, but the Pack battled back to tie the set 10-all. A kill by Leoniak gave NC State its first lead of the set and the Pack didn't look back. Virginia called timeout trailing by four, but a kill by Madison Williams started a 8-4 run by the Wolfpack. Rice tallied 11 kills on the evening, while Kristen McDaniel recorded 17 assists and Jada Allen had four blocks as the Pack took set two, 25-17.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Down by two, the Wolfpack went on a 4-0 run to take the lead 15-13. The Cavaliers tied the set 17-all, but back-to-back attacking errors put NC State back in front. UVA called a timeout in hopes of slowing down the Wolfpack, but were unsuccessful as NC State ended up taking the set 25-19.
Rice led the way with 16 kills and Leoniak tallied 11. Allen led the way defensively with six blocks, while Cropper and Leoniak each added three. McDaniel led the setters with 27 assists and added two service aces to her stat line.
The Pack finished the regular season 22-7 overall, 12-6 in conference play.
