RALEIGH, N.C. – The final road game of the regular season finds NC State traveling to Blacksburg, Virginia, to take on Virginia Tech at 3:30 p.m. with the game broadcast on the ACC Network.
The Wolfpack will be going for it's fourth straight win as they meet the Hokies for the 52nd time in a series that dates back 123 years.
The Wolfpack and Hokies have played just seven times since Virginia Tech joined the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2004. NC State has won two of those contests, including last year's win in Raleigh.
Two current Wolfpack assistant coaches spent many years on the staff at Virginia Tech. CB coach Brian Mitchell coached that same position for the Hokies from 2016-19 while D-line coach Charley Wiles spent 24 seasons on the VT staff under head coaches Frank Beamer and Justin Fuente.
Wolfpack QB Brennan Armstrong faced the Hokies twice while he was playing at Virginia, passing for a combined 654 yards, throwing for three TDs and rushing for a pair.
The defense will be looking to have another strong outing. In the last three games - wins vs. Clemson, Miami and Wake Forest - the Wolfpack defense has allowed just 9.7 ppg, 75.7 rushing yards per game (and 2.8 yards per attempt) and forced EIGHT turnovers. In the last 14 quarters (dating back to halftime of the Duke game), the defense has allowed just one receiving touchdown (and that came in the 4th quarter vs. Wake Forest when the game was long decided).
A stalwart Wolfpack defense has allowed just 84.1 rushing yards per game. During the last eight games, three opponents have rushed for less than 100 yards (VMI 10, Louisville 20 and Wake Forest 7). The Wolfpack has allowed just 92.3 rushing yards per game vs. ACC opponents, the league's top mark in the conference games only stats.
Dave Doeren is now the winningest coach in the 132 years of NC State football. He passed Earle Edwards as the all-time leader with his 78th Wolfpack victory - a 20-6 win over Miami - and now has 79 since coming to NC State prior to the 2013 season.
The week before, Doeren posted the 100th win of his career with a win over Clemson. Doeren has guided NC State to at least eight wins in five of the last six seasons, and the Pack ranks second in the ACC in conference wins since 2020. Nine of his 11 Wolfpack squads have qualified for bowl games - the most of any coach in school history.
Wide receiver KC Concepcion has been doing it all this season for the Wolfpack. He not only leads the team in receiving with 50 catches for 573 yards, but he ranks fifth on the team in rushing, averaging 11 yards per carry. He ranks fourth in the ACC in total receptions this week with 5.0 per game - the best mark among true freshmen nationally (third-best among all freshmen). Concepcion has boasted the Wolfpack longest reception (72 yards) and longest rush (65 yards) this season. In fact, his 65- yard rush vs. Wake Forest was the longest run for the Wolfpack since 2015.
