Pack Falls to Tar Heels

DJ Burns and Jarkel Joiner led NC State with 18 points
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State men's basketball team fell to North Carolina, 80-69, Saturday evening inside the Dean E. Smith Center.
The Pack was led by D.J. Burns and Jarkel Joiner who both scored 18 points. Casey Morsell and Terquavion Smith both finished with 12 points.
Smith was injured with 9:45 left in the game and did not return.
Joiner made back-to-back field goals to give NC State a 42-41 lead with 16:39 remaining, but North Carolina went on a 12-2 run to take a 53-44 advantage with 12:45 to go.
The Pack cut the deficit to six points multiple times, but could get no closer as North Carolina closed out the game from the free throw line.
For the sixth time in eight games, the Pack had single digit turnovers, but only turned over UNC seven times.
NC State came into the game with a 14-1 record when it tied or outrebounded its opponent, but the Tar Heels outrebounded the Pack, 42-27. NC State is now 0-4 when it is outrebounded.
North Carolina finished the game 36-of-39 from the foul line. The 36 made free throws were the most by an ACC team this season and the 39 attempts tied for the most this season. UNC's RJ Davis went a perfect 14-of-14 from the charity stripe.
NC State finished 12-of-12 from the foul line.
With the loss, the Pack falls to 15-5, 5-4 in the ACC, while the Tar Heels improve to 14-6, 6-3 in the ACC.
NC State returns to action Tuesday evening inside PNC Arena when it hosts Notre Dame. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
