Pack Falls to Tennessee, Rice Records Career Night

RALEIGH – The NC State volleyball team fell to Tennessee, 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 25-27), in the final match of the NC State Classic Saturday evening. Junior Amanda Rice had a career night as she tallied 17 kills to set a new career high. She also recorded a season high .455 hitting percentage and recorded 19.5 points for the Pack.
Freshman Ava Brizard added 11 kills.
Senior setter Kristen McDaniel tallied two kills and 37 assists on the evening.
Set One (22-25)
The set was a battle from the start. Tennessee ended up taking a lead and NC State struggled to gain momentum. Despite the Wolfpack's efforts to take the lead. Tennessee took set one, recording 14 kills compared to the Pack's 15, five of which came from Rice.
Set Two (22-25)
Tennessee took an early, but the Pack tied the set 13-13 and kept it close the rest of the way. With the set tied 22-22, McDaniel tallied a kill that surprised the Vols. The two teams battled back and forth, but Tennessee came out on top.
Set Three (25-27)
Martyna Leoniak started the set and tallied back-to-back kills to help the Pack gain momentum. Both teams used a challenge during the set, but NC State was the only team whose was successful. Freshman Lily Cropper recorded her first collegiate kill for the Wolfpack.

The Pack will host TCU, Indiana, and Western Carolina starting on Thursday Sept. 8.
