IRVING, Texas – NC State offensive lineman Timothy McKay was named a semifinalist for the 2022 William V. Campbell Trophy, as announced by the National Football Foundation on Wednesday morning. Presented annually by the National Football Foundation, the Campbell Trophy recognizes the country's top student-athlete based on academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.
McKay, a graduate student from Raleigh, is one of just 156 semifinalists nationwide. This season, he's played 197 total snaps, making his first-career start in NC State's 41-10 win over UConn on Saturday. McKay has made 18 pancake blocks this season, including three against the Huskies over 63 total snaps.
Over his career, McKay has played in 22 games on NC State's offensive line, playing in all 12 games in 2021. He's logged 518 career snaps and 31 pancake blocks and has featured in at least three games each season dating back to his freshman year in 2019.
In the classroom, McKay graduated cum laude (3.47 GPA) with a bachelor's degree in business administration with a minor in entrepreneurship. He earned ACC Academic Honor Roll accolades all four years, making the dean's list twice during his time at NC State. In the future, he plans on furthering his studies in management with a marketing analytics concentration.
McKay was NC State's lulu eGames reward recipient, an entrepreneurship competition. He also is involved with NC State's ALPHA group, an NIL leadership group, and NC State's SAAC chapter.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on Oct. 26, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 6, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports.
