RALEIGH – NC State rifle head coach Dr. Kelly Carter announced the addition of Edie Fleeman to the Wolfpack coaching staff on Tuesday morning.
"We are very lucky to have Edie join the NC State rifle team staff," Carter said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in all facets of shooting sports."
Fleeman returns to NC State after being the assistant coach for the rifle team from 1974-2000. She also coached on an interim basis this past season before NC State named Carter head coach on Oct. 29.
One of Fleeman's most notable credentials is serving on the NCAA Rifle Committee from 1987-93. NC State rifle's new assistant coach also has multiple NRA certifications, including being an NRA Certified Rifle and Shotgun Instructor, an NRA Certified (Level 2) Rifle and Shotgun Coach, and an NRA Range Safety Officer.
Fleeman has held roles in several junior rifle programs, including being an assistant coach to the NCSU Wolflets Rifle Club from 1974-1982. She also has managed the Riflery Department at Brown Ledge Camp, Vermont, as the head of the department from 1971-1974, 1996-2005, and 2006-present as needed.
Individually, Fleeman was a competitive shooter in smallbore for rifle, skeet and trap during and after her first run at NC State. In rifle prone, Fleeman has won the women's national championship five times (1986, 1990, 1995, 1996, 2006). In rifle skeet shooting, she has won the state women's championship title twice. She also possesses many individual and team national records and several state and regional titles.
Fleeman has also won the North Carolina Conventional Prone State Championship 19 times, the North Carolina Metric Prone State Championship 12 times and is the first woman to win all three women's championship trophies at the Regiment Challenge Cup in 1985.
In college, Fleeman shot for Wake Forest, earning MVP and letter awards during her time. She graduated from Wake Forest with a bachelor's degree in biology in 1974. She later earned a Nurse Aide I certificate from Durham Technical Community College in 2011.
