RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Wolfpack All-American distance swimmer Eric Knowles was honored as Chi Alpha Sigma's Scholar Athlete of the Year, as announced by the organization on Tuesday morning.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Knowles graduated from NC State in May following a five-season career for the Wolfpack. During that time, he helped captain the men's swimming and diving team to conference titles and fourth-place NCAA Championship finishes four times. Knowles was a seven-time All-American and a three-time ACC champion during his collegiate career, highlighted by claiming the individual conference title in the 500-yard freestyle in 2019.
In the classroom, Knowles compiled a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a materials science and engineering major. He was recognized as a member of the Academic All-ACC Team and a CSCAA Scholar All-American every year at NC State. Knowles also won the Elite 90 Award for Men's Swimming and Diving for having the top GPA out of any competitor at that NCAA Championships event, and he was a recipient of a 2022 ACC Postgraduate Scholarship.
Knowles joins former teammate Andreas Vazaios as the only two NC State student-athletes to receive Chi Alpha Sigma Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award recognizes student-athletes from one men's sport and one women's sport who have demonstrate academic and athletic achievement, as well as service and leadership both on-campus and in the community.
