Long Snapper Shimko Named to Mannelly Award Watch List

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State long snapper Joe Shimko has been named to the 2022 Patrick Mannelly Award Watch List. The annual award is named after the former NFL long snapper, and will be presented to the player judged to be the best FBS long snapper.

He is one of 25 to make the preseason list, and one of only three from the ACC (Duke and North Carolina).

Shimko has been a reliable snapper who snapped for every kick since the beginning of the 2019 season. He boasts 174 long snaps and 180 short snaps for his career with no bad snaps. Last season, he was named a fourth-team All-American according to Phil Steele.

The award, created in 2019, benefits Bernie's Book Bank, a non-profit organization located in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Ten semi-finalists will be announced on November 14, 2022.

Those names will be narrowed to three finalists announced on November 28, 2022 and the winner selected at the live award ceremony in Lake Bluff on December 10, 2022.
