McPherson to join Taty Forbes in WPF
RALEIGH – Former NC State softball pitcher Maddie McPherson has signed a contract with the Florida Vibe in the new Women's Professional Fastpitch league.
McPherson joined the Pack for the 2022 season as a graduate transfer and was a crucial part of the pitching rotation. She finished the season with 149.0 innings pitched and 140 strikeouts, both were team highs. Additionally, in the circle she only walked 39 batters which placed her third in program history for fewest walks per seven innings.
The left-hander posted a 13-12 record in 38 appearances including 20 starts in the 2022 campaign. En route to helping the team set the record for the best start in program history, McPherson tossed a combined no-hitter against Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 19.
The Plains, Ga., native kept getting better as the season progressed as she threw six scoreless innings against ETSU on April 8 with striking out a then-career-best 10 batters, only allowing three hits. Later in the month, McPherson tossed a complete game one-hitter against Norfolk State, striking out a career-high 14 batters.
WPF made an announcement in late September of 2021 stating the beginning of a new professional softball league slated to begin in June 2022. The season is from June 15 to August 15. The Vibe is located in Bradenton, Fla., and McPherson will wear 0.
