Chmiel, Tuohy named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans

AUSTIN, Texas - NC State track & field and cross country student-athletes Kelsey Chmiel and Katelyn Tuohy have been named 2021-22 Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-Americans, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Chmiel was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team for the second consecutive year while Tuohy tabbed a spot on the Third Team for her first career honors.
Chmiel comes off a stellar junior campaign on the course as well as the track. She won the individual title at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships as well as the 2021 NCAA Southeast Regional. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native was the top finisher for the Wolfpack at the NCAA Cross Championships, placing sixth for All-America status.
Her 2021-22 indoor track & field season saw her post a pair of First Team All-America honors in the 3000m and 5000m, and during the season she set school records in the Mile and 5000m. Chmiel completed her undergraduate degree in Animal Science with a 4.0 GPA and holds a graduate GPA of 4.0 as she pursues a degree in Veterinary Science.
Tuohy won her first career NCAA individual title in her 2021-22 season, getting the win in the outdoor 5000m and additionally winning the ACC individual championships in the indoor 5000m as well as the outdoor 1500m. Her outdoor 1500m and 5000m times, both run in the 2022 season, check into the collegiate all-time ranks at seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Stony Point, N.Y., native was a member of the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Champion squad, placing 15th for All-America honors. Across cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, Tuohy collected four All-America honors. The sophomore holds a 3.56 GPA as she pursues a degree in Business Administration.
