RALEIGH – As the nation celebrates Juneteenth, NC State's Pack United organization has launched a new website with information about the student-led initiative to create a more inclusive community. The webpage is live at GoPackUnited.com.
Pack United has remained committed to its mission of fighting racism and social injustice. Founded in June of 2020 and officially becoming a registered student organization on NC State's campus in October of 2020, this educational and charitable nonprofit group has worked to achieve its stated goal through its three pillars of awareness, education and action.
Over the course of the past two years, Pack United has:
Increased awareness of social injustice and racism by…
- Planning and executing multiple social media campaign
- Collaborating with the College of Textiles to design a Pack United patch for various teams' uniforms
- Partnering with Wolfpack Outfitters to sell the first Pack United shirts online
Helped educate the NC State and Raleigh community by…
- Creating spaces on how best to be an ally of support to students of color through diversity, equity and inclusion
- Partnering with Pack the Polls, a campus initiative on voting and civic engagement, to be ambassadors to educate and facilitate voter registration on each Wolfpack team
- Teaming up with local and community resources at NC State to educate and better articulate narratives surrounding social unrest in Black communities
Encouraged and taken action by…
- Donating over $10,000 to organizations that address educational equity, food and housing insecurity and civic engagement
- Organizing multiple service events, including packing meals with Rise Against Hunger, setting up donation drives at multiple sporting events and partnering with CPI to build kits for Victory Junction summer camps
- Working with multiple local elementary/middle schools and other organizations to provide mentors for students, specifically focusing on students of color
More detailed information about Pack United and how to get involved is located on the organization's new website. Pack United was assisted by the Athletics Staff Social Justice Group in creating the website. This group is composed of diverse members of the Athletic Department who are charged with reinforcing Pack United's three Pillars within the department's culture.
