
Pack Sets Program Record with Six Placed on All-ACC Academic Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Collin Shick, Rafa Izquierdo Luque, Fons Van Sambeek, Luca Staeheli, Braden Shick and Robin Catry have each been named to the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.
The six accolades are the most in a single season in program history and tie NC State with Duke for the most honors by a team this year. Izquierdo Luque and Catry attain the laurels for the second time in their careers while Collin Shick, Van Sambeek, Staeheli and Braden Shick all garner the honors for the first time.

Catry competed consistently for NC State in both singles and doubles and reached his highest rankings of the season at No. 19 in doubles with Staeheli and No. 31 in singles. In singles, he played primarily at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and compiled a 5-1 record when playing on court three.
Izquierdo Luque spent the entire dual match season playing at the No. 1 singles spot, and the senior defeated five ranked opponents in his 2022 campaign. He achieved his highest singles ranking of the year at No. 82.
Braden Shick turned out some big performances throughout the season, highlighted by a match-clinching performance that sent NC State to its first Sweet 16 since 2007. He totaled an 8-3 record at No. 6 singles and collected 10 wins at No. 3 doubles.
Graduate student Collin Shick tabbed a perfect 3-0 record against ranked doubles opponents in his final season with the Pack. He was named ACC Doubles Team of the Week once alongside Yannai Barkai.
Staeheli, the ITA Carolina Region Rookie of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year, posted two ranked singles victories and went 3-0 against ranked doubles opponents in 2022. He earned his highest ranking of the season in doubles at No. 19 with Catry and put together a 6-1 record playing in the No. 2 singles position.
Van Sambeek was a two-time ACC Doubles Team of the Week honoree with Martins Rocens as the duo won against three ranked opponents. He won six matches at No. 6 singles and attained his highest doubles ranking of the season with Rocens at No. 15.
In order to be named to the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during his or her academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team members.
