RALEIGH – NC State women's tennis (23-5) enters the 2022 NCAA Championships as the No. 6 overall seed and will play host to regional action in Raleigh this weekend. The Wolfpack takes on William & Mary (13-8) on Saturday afternoon for the first round of the team tournament, with that match set to start at 1 p.m. from the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center on NC State's campus.
A victory over the Tribe in the first round would advance the Pack to the second round, where it would face the winner of the match between the Volunteers and the Rams on Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m.
ATTENDANCE INFO:
Attendance for the first and second rounds of the Raleigh Regional is free. Fans are expected to park in the West Deck. No parking passes or parking payment will be needed to park in this deck for the women's matches on Saturday and Sunday. Matches will be played outdoors weather permitting. Any changes to match times or moves indoors will be announced on the @PackWTennis Twitter account and on the GoPack schedule for the team.
WOLFPACK IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT:
The 2022 NCAA Championships berth marks NC State's 12th overall appearance and its sixth season in a row qualifying for the event under the leadership of head coach Simon Earnshaw. That streak continues to stand as a program best.
NC State has reached the second round of the NCAA Championships five times in team history. The program punched a ticket to its first-ever Sweet 16 in 2019 and advanced to the NCAA Final Four last year. The 2019 campaign also marked the team's first time hosting the first two rounds of the national tournament, putting the Pack's home NCAA Championships record at 4-0 after also hosting in 2021.
ABOUT THE PACK:
NC State continues postseason action having been ranked in the national top eight for the entirety of the dual match campaign. The team reached a program-best No. 2 for six weeks in February and March and has been in the national top 15 of every rankings release since Feb. 26, 2019.
The Wolfpack has played one of the toughest schedules in the nation to date, having faced 13 opponents ranked in the national top 25. The squad beat eight of those teams ahead of NCAA Championships play, highlighted by an early-season victory over No. 3 Georgia that tied the program mark for highest ranked win.
MAKING HISTORY:
NC State has hit a multitude of historic milestones already in 2022. The team's 23 wins this season ranks second in program history behind 24 set in 2019. The Wolfpack started the season with a 10-0 record (the best season-opening mark in team history), reached the ITA National Team Indoor semifinal for the first time ever and started ACC play 7-0 (also a program best).
For the second time in as many years, NC State will have multiple singles players and multiple doubles pairs in the national draws for the NCAA Women's Tennis Singles and Doubles Championships. Jaeda Daniel and Abigail Rencheli earned at-large bids to compete in the 64-player singles draw, and they will also compete in the doubles draw with Daniel playing alongside Nell Miller and Rencheli teaming up with Amelia Rajecki.
Daniel is a top-16 seed in the singles draw, and she and Miller are the No. 1 seed in doubles. Both of the seedings automatically garner those players status as All-Americans.
UP NEXT:
The team that goes unbeaten in action at the Raleigh Regional will earn a spot in the Sweet Sixteen. Super regional action will also be played at campus sites, with the hosts for those matches to be selected following the conclusion of the second round. Teams that advance to the Elite Eight will then meet at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana, Ill., to finish out the tournament beginning on May 20. The singles and doubles championships will also be played in Illinois from May 23-28 following the conclusion of team competition.
