CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – NC State women's tennis sophomore Abigail Rencheli earned the first All-America citation of her career with a second-round win in the NCAA Singles Championships on Tuesday afternoon.
With her victory over Thasaporn Naklo of Iowa State, Rencheli is one of 16 players remaining in the singles draw. She advances to take on top-seeded Emma Navarro of Virginia in the next round on Wednesday.
Rencheli put together an absolutely incredible comeback after dropping the first set and facing quadruple match point in the second set. The Sarasota, Fla., native won the final nine games of the match on her way to beating Naklo 6-7 (3-7), 7-5, 6-0.
As determined by her status as a top-16 seed in this year's draw, graduate Jaeda Daniel had already earned citation as a singles All-American for the 2022 season. It marks the first time in program history that NC State has had multiple singles All-Americans in the same campaign.
Playing in the Round of 32 for the first time in her two NCAA Singles Championships appearances, Daniel matched up with a familiar face in UNC's Elizabeth Scotty. The top-30 matchup between fellow ACC players ended in favor of Scotty as she won 6-1, 6-3 to advance. Daniel ended her singles career at NC State with 62 wins in three seasons, ranking ninth in team history.
The Wolfpack crew also stepped into doubles action on Tuesday night, with both Daniel and Nell Miller and Rencheli and Amelia Rajecki competing in the bracket of 32 pairs.
Daniel and Miller, the top-seeded duo in the draw, punched their ticket to the Round of 16 with a straight-sets win over Elysia Bolton and Elise Wagle of UCLA. The NC State pair won 6-2, 7-6 (4) and advanced to take on 10th-ranked Carmen Corley and Ivana Corly (Oklahoma) on Wednesday.
Rajecki and Rencheli saw their doubles run come to a close as they fell 6-4, 6-2 to Charlotte Russell and Lahari Yelamanchili of Tulane. The pair made their first NCAA Doubles Championships appearance after having appeared in each of the Pack's last 51 dual matches. They spent almost the entirety of the year ranked in the national top 30.
Match times for Rencheli's singles match and Daniel and Miller's doubles match will be communicated on the @PackWTennis Twitter account on Wednesday morning.
