Trio from Wolfpack Wrestling Club Place Second at World Team Trials

Camacho, Trumble and Macchiavello all reached the finals
CORALVILLE, IOWA – Three members of the Wolfpack Wrestling Club brought home second place finishes this weekend at the 2022 World Team Trials. Jakob Camacho (57 kg), Isaac Trumble (92) and Michael Macchiavello (97) all advanced to the best 2-of-3 final in their weight class.

Camacho entered as the #4 seed, then won his first two matches to reach the final. He started with a 9-4 win over Campbell's Molton. In the semifinals, he avenged a recent loss to top seed and U.S. Open Champion Ramos of Purdue, 11-7. Camacho dropped his two matches in the final to Cornell's Arujau.

Trumble also avenged a recent loss to reach his final. Trumble started with a pin over former World Team member Downey in his first bout. Then in the semifinals, he reversed a loss and took out top seed and U.S. Open champion Caffey of Michigan State with an 11-0 tech. Trumble fell in the final series to Nate Jackson.

As the U.S. Open champion at his weight, Macchiavello was the top seed and had a bye into the semifinals where he beat Rider's Laird 8-2. He dropped his final series to Kollin Moore.

Along with Camacho and Trumble as current members of the NC State Wrestling team, Trent Hidlay also brought home a podium finish as he took third at 86 kg. All three members of the 2022-23 Wolfpack squad that wrestled earned a podium finish. In the consolation rounds, Hidlay won his two matches 10-0 and 6-2 over former national champion Foster in the third place bout.
