RALEIGH – Wolfpack women's basketball has added River Baldwin to its roster, as announced by the program on Friday. Baldwin is transferring from Florida State where she just completed her junior campaign, and she will be immediately eligible to play for the Wolfpack beginning with the 2022-23 season.
A 6-5 center, Baldwin brings with her a wealth of ACC front-court experience after having played in all 82 of the Seminoles' games the past three seasons and earning the starting nod in 19 of those contests. Baldwin averages 5.3 points and 4.0 rebounds on her career with a 52.8 percent shooting mark (168-of-318).
"River is someone we're very familiar with, both from her high school career and her ACC career," said head coach Wes Moore. "She brings a great skill set on offense that will fit well in our four-out, one-in system. Her presence on the boards and on the block will be an asset on both ends of the court. We're definitely excited about adding the talent and experience that River will bring to our program."
In 2021-22, Baldwin put up career-best averages of 6.0 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting 54.5 percent from the floor. She finished the season with six double-figure scoring games and four games with multiple blocked shots. Baldwin posted a double-double in a Dec. 12 game against Florida with 15 points and 10 boards, and she shot 7-of-8 from the field and knocked down a three in that game.
Baldwin has scored in double figures in 14 career games, notching a career-high 19 points in a win over North Florida in December of 2019. As a rookie, she blocked a team-leading 31 shots.
The Andalusia, Ala., native entered her collegiate career as the No. 5 post player and the No. 27 player in her class by ESPN. Baldwin was a 2019 McDonald's All-American and was featured on the Naismith Watch List in high school. A four-time Alabama Class 1A All-State First Team member, she was also a finalist for the 2017 USA U16 National Team and the 2019 USA U17 World Cup Team. Over the course of her final two seasons at Pleasant Home High School, Baldwin averaged 24.3 points, 13 rebounds and 5.8 blocks per game.
The daughter of Gabrielle and John Baldwin, River was an All-ACC Academic Team member in 2020 and was named ACC Freshman of the Week twice during her rookie campaign.
