Cunane One of 12 Invited to WNBA Draft in New York City

NEW YORK – Elissa Cunane is one of 12 prospects invited to attend the 2022 WNBA Draft presented by State Farm, which will be held on Monday, April 11 at Spring Studios in New York.
The event, which is being held in-person for the first time since 2019, will also be televised nationally on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m.
Joining Cunane will be Shakira Austin (Ole Miss), Kierstan Bell (Florida Gulf Coast), Rae Burrell (Tennessee), Veronica Burton (Northwestern), Nia Clouden (Michigan State), Emily Engstler (Louisville), Destanni Henderson (South Carolina), Naz Hillmon (Michigan), Rhyne Howard (Kentucky), Nyara Sabally (Oregon) and NaLyssa Smith (Baylor).
A native of Summerfield, N.C., Cunane wrapped up one of the most decorated four-year careers in NC State women's basketball history. A nine-time All-American, four-time ACC champion and two-time ACC Tournament MVP, she was most recently named a consensus All-American by the AP, USBWA and WBCA following the 2021-22 season.
The 6-5 center played in 125 games in the Red and White and earned the starting nod in 101 of those contests. She ended her time at NC State ranked sixth in program history in career points (1,855), seventh in double-doubles (34) and fifth in rebounds (986). She is the program record holder in free throws made (513) in addition to ranking in the Wolfpack's top 10 in a multitude of other categories.
On her career, Cunane averaged 14.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 54.0 percent shooting.
The Wolfpack has had 16 student-athletes in program history be chosen in the WNBA Draft, with four of those selections occurring in the first round.
In preparation for the draft, ESPN2 will broadcast the first-ever WNBA Draft Preview Show on Saturday, April 9 (1:30 p.m.). LaChina Robinson will host the 30-minute special with analyst Rebecca Lobo. Together they will break down the top draft prospects, discuss team needs and whose stock is on the rise following the NCAA Tournament.
