New 8-team league opened action this past weekend
RALEIGH, N.C. – Six former members of the Wolfpack football team have continued their professional dreams, and suited up this past weekend for Week 1 of the relaunched USFL.
The USFL originally launched in 1983 and saw three seasons of action being a spring/summer schedule. The 1986 season was set for direct competition in the fall/winter with the NFL, however that season was canceled before it started.
The league was reformed in 2022 with eight teams, and all games this season are taking place in Birmingham, Ala.
Here are the #PackPros in the relaunched USFL:
• TE Cary Angeline: Birmingham Stallions. Angeline joined the Pack for three seasons (2018-20) after transferring from USC. In the first game of the season, playing for the hometown Stallions, Angeline caught a pair of passes for 35 yards including a 29-yard TD.

Fernandez was a four-year starter at middle linebacker with the Pack (2014-17) while Stevens played cornerback (2014-17). In their first USFL game, Fernandez led the Breakers with 12 tackles while Stevens added three.
