RALEIGH – NC State women's basketball has added Mimi Collins to its roster, as announced by head coach Wes Moore on Tuesday. Collins is transferring from Maryland, and she will be immediately eligible to play for the Wolfpack beginning with the 2022-23 season.
A 6-3 forward, Collins was named to the 2021 All-Big Ten Honorable Mention Team. In two seasons with the Terrapins and one season spent at Tennessee (2018-19), she has played in 93 career games and earned the starting nod in 43 outings. Collins averages 7.9 points and 4.5 rebounds on her career with a 47.4 percent shooting clip (289-of-610).
"We're really excited to add Mimi to our program," said Moore. "With the loss of Kayla Jones to the WNBA, we knew we needed to add someone with the talent and experience to contribute immediately. We recruited Mimi out of high school, so we're familiar with her as a person but also as a player. She has a skill set that will further strengthen our team, and she will be effective all-around, from the three-point line to the rim. We can't wait to get Mimi to Raleigh and get started."
Collins has scored in double figures in 32 career games and tallied a pair of 20+ point games during her time with the Terps. She is coming off of a season during which she averaged 7.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in just over 25 minutes of action per game.
In a 2020-21 campaign during which she received recognition as an all-conference honoree, Collins put up averages of 10.6 points and 6.2 rebounds. She posted three double-doubles that season and set her career high with 22 points in a Dec. 14, 2020 win over Rutgers.
The Slidell, La., native was ranked the No. 3 forward and No. 9 overall (ProspectsNation.com) in her signing class before beginning her collegiate career. Collins was a Naismith All-America Honorable Mention selection in 2017 and was a multi-time VISAA All-State honoree. She also participated in the USA U16/U17 World Championship Team Trials in 2015 and 2016.
The daughter of Derwin and Bonita Collins, Mimi has two older brothers: Milan and Devin. Her father played basketball at the University of New Orleans where he was American South Conference Player of the Year as a senior.
