Smith has now won ACC FOW honors four times this season
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men's basketball guard Terquavion Smith was named ACC Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon for his efforts in last week's games at Wake Forest and Florida State.
It is the fourth ACC Freshman of the Week honor for Smith this season.
ACC men's basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Smith averaged 26.0 points per game and hit 10 three-pointers in two NC State games last week.
The Greenville native started the week with 22 points, shooting 5-of-10 from three-point range in the Pack's game at Wake Forest.
On Saturday at Florida State, Smith scored 30 points and again shot 5-of-10 from three-point range.
It was the second 30 or more point performance of the season for Smith.
Last week, Smith moved from seventh to fourth on the ACC's single season freshman three-pointer list. He passed Georgia Tech's Stephon Marbury and Duke's JJ Redick last week. With 96 on the season, he needs just one more to tie with Duke's Gary Trent, Jr., for third and two more to tie with Georgia Tech's Dennis Scott for second. Curtis Staples has the most three-pointers ever by an ACC freshman with 103.
Earlier on Monday, Smith was named to the ACC's All-Rookie Team and was an All-ACC Honorable Mention selection.
NC State opens the ACC Tournament Tuesday afternoon when it faces Clemson at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 4:30 p.m. and will be televised on the ACC Network.
