Terquavion Smith scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Pack
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State defeated NC State, 89-76, Saturday afternoon inside the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center.
Terquavion Smith scored 30 points on 11-of-23 shooting, including 5-of-10 from three-point range.
He now has 96 three-pointers on the season which are the third-most in a single season in program history and are the fourth-most by a freshman in ACC history. Smith passed Duke's JJ Redick (95 in 2002-03) to move into fourth on the ACC chart.
It's the second 30 or more performance of Smith's season. He has now led NC State in scoring in eight of the last 10 games.
Jericole Hellems added 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting while Dereon Seabron finished with 17 points and a team-best five assists.
Smith, Hellems and Seabron combined to score 68 of the Pack's 76 points.
The Seminoles shot 55.2 percent in the first half to take a 46-35 advantage into the break.
The Pack closed within 51-42 with 16:58 to go, but Florida State went on a 9-3 run to take a 61-45 lead with 13:10 remaining.
The Seminoles stretched the lead to as many as 17, but the Pack had one last run in it, going on a 10-2 streak to get within 75-66 with 5:38 to play on a Hellems three-pointer. Florida State answered with a basket on its next possession and NC State never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Florida State shot 51.6 percent fro the game and outscored NC State, 42-22, in points in the paint and had a 53-4 advantage in bench points.
Caleb Mills led five Seminoles in double figures with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting.
NC State opens the ACC Tournament in Brooklyn on Tuesday afternoon when it takes on 10th-seed Clemson at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the ACC Network.
