ATLANTA – NC State's men's swimmers kicked off the 2022 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships with two relays Wednesday night. The 200-yard medley relay dropped 1.71 seconds from its entry time to take third place, while the Pack men finished out the first evening of competition with a six place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
Entering the 200-yard medley relay as the 14th seed, Kacper Stokowski (20.16), Rafal Kusto (23.22), Nyls Korstanje (19.55), and David Curtiss (18.76) combined for a time of 1:21.69 to take third place, blowing away the previous program record by .68 of a second. The time also brings the ACC Record back into Wolfpack territory.
Stokowski is now the second fastest to ever swim the 50-yard backstroke, as his leadoff split (20.16) was one of three splits in the field to be faster than Ryan Murphy's 20.20 second performance that was previously the fastest in history.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Luke Miller (1:31.62), Sam Hoover (1:32.09), Bartosz Piszczorowicz (1:32.84), and Hunter Tapp (1:31.67) closed out the last heat of the night with a time of 6:0 to put the Pack on the podium with a sixth place finish.
The Pack will be back in action with a full day of competition Thursday with Prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and Finals slated to begin at 6 p.m. Both sessions will be aired live on ESPN3.
