ATLANTA – For the second season in a row and the third time in his career at NC State, women's basketball head coach Wes Moore has been named one of four finalists for the 2022 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's Coach of the Year Award, as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Monday.
Moore was previously a finalist for the award in 2019 and 2021, and he was also a semifinalist in 2020.
In the midst of his ninth season with the Wolfpack, Moore's squads have consistently performed at the highest level, but his 2021-22 team has accomplished a multitude of firsts in a historic campaign for NC State women's basketball.
NC State most recently won its 2022 NCAA Tournament opener to pick up the 30th overall win on the 2021-22 season. That number marks the most in a single season in the program's 48-year history. The Wolfpack is 30-3 on the year, with eight of its wins coming against top-25 opponents, also a single-season program best.
Moore guided the Wolfpack to its third-straight ACC Tournament title in 2022 after the team also won the regular-season crown for the first time in 32 years. The sweep marked the first for the team since 1984-85.
Moore's Wolfpack squad finished the season ranked third in the final Associated Press Top 25 rankings of the year. The team spent every week of the season ranked in the national top five and owns the longest active AP Top 5 streak in the nation at 34 polls.
Moore has compiled a 220-68 (.764) overall record and a 106-40 (.726) ACC clip while serving as the leader of the Pack. He owns 778 career wins, which ranks seventh among active NCAA Division I women's basketball coaches.
From March 22-29, fans may show support for their favorite finalist by visiting naismithfanvote.com to cast a ballot for the Coach of the Year and Men's and Women's College Player of the Year awards. The fan vote accounts for five percent of the overall final vote. The 2022 Werner Ladder Naismith Women's College Coach of the Year will be awarded Wednesday, March 30 during the Women's Final Four in Minneapolis.
The four finalists were chosen by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's national voting academy, comprised of leading journalists from around the country, current and former head coaches, former award winners and conference commissioners, all of who base their selections on outstanding coaching performances during the 2021-22 college basketball season.
Moore and the Wolfpack are set to continue 2022 NCAA Tournament action later on Monday with a second-round matchup against ninth-seeded Kansas State.
