Wolfpack Women Finish Day Two of NCAAs with Third Place Relay Finish

ATLANTA – Day two of the 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships were highlighted by a third place relay finish and two All American performances by the Wolfpack Women.Â
NC State currently sits in fifth place with 99 points after scoring in three events during the evening finals session.Â
During the morning's prelims session, senior Kylee Alons and junior Katharine Berkoff posted quick times in the 50-yard freestyle to secure a spot in the evening's Championship final. Berkoff's 21.56 prelims swim gave her the 6th seed heading into the final, while Kylee Alons' 21.62 put her right behind Berkoff in 7th.Â
In the night's finals session, Berkoff lowered her personal best time for the second time of the day, taking 7th (21.55). Teammate Kylee Alons was just .13 behind, finishing 8th (21.68). Both women earned All American status.
The Wolfpack women's 200-yard freestyle relay ended the night with momentum with their third place finish. Their time of 1:26.37 marks third all-time in NC State history. Anchoring the squad, sophomore Abby Arens posted the team's fastest split (21.25), overtaking the field after being in 8th place at the 150 mark.
Katharine Berkoff led off the relay with a time of 21.58, just two one hundredths of a second slower than her first race of the evening. Kylee Alons contributed her fastest swim of the day (21.49) and Sophie Hansson added a 22.05 to round things out for the Wolfpack women.Â
The Pack will be back in action tomorrow morning with thirteen swims in the 400-yard IM, 100-yard fly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the 400-yard medley relay (finals).
