NC State student-athletes will soon be able to receive additional benefits as a result of the Supreme Court's decision in Alston v. NCAA. That decision granted the universities the opportunity to provide student-athletes with additional education benefits and direct financial support, up to a maximum of $5,980 per year. An exciting new opportunity, the Wolfpack Academic Incentive Program, will distribute funds based on equivalency, continuing academic eligibility, and prioritizing academic achievement.
While each institution within the ACC has the ability to establish its own process, NC State is thrilled to provide varying levels of opportunities to all of its student-athletes.
"We are excited about the opportunity to make this benefit available for our 550 student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan. "This positively impacts their experience and opportunities and we appreciate the Wolfpack Club's support on this initiative."Â
Beginning in the fall semester of 2022, NC State student-athletes will receive this additional financial support if they meet NCAA continuing eligibility requirements and return for their next semester. The amount of financial support each student-athlete receives will be based on a percentage amount that is equivalent to their athletics scholarship percentage.Â
Further, all non and partial scholarship student-athletes will have the opportunity to earn up to $500 per semester (or $1,000 total per year) if they have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the end of the term, meet continuing eligibility requirements, and return for the next semester.
The academic and graduation incentive plan was developed following consultation with all NC State head coaches as well as other constituencies on campus.
The Wolfpack Academic Incentive Program comes at a time in which NC State Athletics and the Wolfpack Club continue to expand and invest heavily in student-athlete experiences and opportunities. We very much appreciate the hard work of the Wolfpack Club that makes these opportunities possible.
