Final ranking ties program best for second year in a row
RALEIGH – For the second year in a row, Wolfpack women's hoops finished as the nation's No. 3 team in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll of the season. The ranking ties as the best final AP ranking in program history as also accomplished by NC State's squads in 2020-21 and 1977-78.
NC State has been featured in the season-ending AP Top 10 four seasons in a row, extending a program-best streak. The Wolfpack has spent the last 34 polls in the national top five, which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I women's basketball. The team has been ranked in the AP Top 5 since Dec. 7, 2020, the AP Top 10 since Dec. 9, 2019 and the AP Top 25 since Feb. 5, 2018.
The Pack previously spent three weeks of the 2021-22 campaign at No. 2 to tie the best overall AP Top 25 ranking in program history.
NC State is in the midst of one of the best seasons in the program's 48-year history. The Wolfpack most recently won its third-straight ACC Tournament title and earned the sweep with the regular-season crown for the first time since 1984-85. The team is 29-3 on the year, with those 29 wins tying as the most in a single season in program history. This year's Wolfpack team has defeated eight top-25 foes, which also ties a program-best mark.
The Wolfpack was ranked No. 2 in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) standings used to measure quality of performance and evaluate team resumes. Through ACC Tournament action, NC State played 10 teams ranked in the top 25 of the NET (8-2 record) and 25 ranked in the top 100 (22-3 record).
The Wolfpack continues its historic season in the 2022 NCAA Tournament, which begins on Saturday, March 19 for the team. NC State will face the winner of Thursday's play-in game against Longwood and Mount St. Mary's, with the first-round matchup set for a 2 p.m. start from Kay Yow Court inside Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.
