PHILADELPHIA – Wolfpack women's basketball guard Diamond Johnson has been named to the late season watch list for the 2022 Dawn Staley Award, as announced by The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon.
The annual honor is given to a player who exemplifies the skills that Coach Staley possessed during her playing career (ball handling, scoring, her ability to distribute the basketball and her will to win).
Also a native of Philadelphia, Johnson ranks second on the NC State team in scoring with her average of 11.4 points per game. She shoots 41.4 percent (104-of-251) overall and 38.1 percent (40-of-105) from three-point range this year. Johnson is also second on the team with her 58 assists (2.5 per game) and is the Wolfpack's leader in steals with 34 (1.5 per game).
Johnson has scored in double figures in 12 games this season, with her 24 points against Washington State in November marking the most scored in a single game by any member of the Pack this year. She's also posted 13 games with three or more assists, dishing out a season-high five against Maryland. Johnson leads the team in threes per game (1.7) and has 13 games with multiple triples and six games with 3+ triples in 2021-22.
The Phoenix Club of Philadelphia will announce four finalists for the award in mid-March, and the winner will be announced the weekend of the Final Four.
