RALEIGH – No. 3 NC State women's hoops (20-3, 11-1 ACC) picked up right where it left off in home action with a 20-point victory over visiting Florida State (10-10, 4-6 ACC), beating the visiting Seminoles by a 68-48 score inside Reynolds Coliseum on Thursday night.
With the win, the Wolfpack secured a 20-win campaign for the seventh season in a row and extended its home winning streak against league opponents to 14 games. The Wolfpack victory also marked head coach Wes Moore's 100th ACC win in nine seasons at NC State. He accomplished the feat in 140 games, the fourth-fastest women's basketball coach in the league's history to do so.
Four of the Pack's five starters hit double figures in scoring - Jakia Brown-Turner (13), Raina Perez (11), Elissa Cunane (11) and Kai Crutchfield (10).
The highlight of NC State's night was its three-point shooting, as the Pack shot 47.8 percent (11-of-23) for its highest such percentage in ACC play this year. Five different players knocked down a three on the night, with Perez (3) and Brown-Turner (3) tying season highs and Crutchfield and Kayla Jones pitching in a pair apiece.
Perez rounded out a stellar all-around outing with a team-leading eight assists, which also tied as a season high for her.
The Wolfpack got off to a hot start from beyond the arc, shooting 6-of-8 (.750) to tie for the most three pointers in a single quarter this season. NC State missed its first two attempts of the game but went on to hit a total of seven in a row after that going into the second quarter.
NC State used its streak to build up a lead of as big as 15 points (27-12) at the very beginning of the second period to give itself an early cushion. Florida State went on a 10-0 run to draw within five (27-22), but NC State weathered the storm and carried an eight-point lead (33-25) into halftime.
Coming out of the break, Cunane hit the first two shots of the half to push the Pack's lead back into double figures. Florida State came back within eight points shortly after, but that was the closest it got in the second half. Back-to-back threes by Perez and Crutchfield kept spurring NC State's offense forward, and the Wolfpack led by 10 or more points for the final 16:18 of the game.
Next up for the Wolfpack is its 17th Annual Play4Kay game on Monday, Feb. 7. NC State will host No. 12 Georgia Tech for this year's edition of the event, and tip-off is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2. Limited tickets still remain and can be purchased here.
