
Three from NC State Athletics Awarded with ACC Postgraduate Scholarships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Three Wolfpack student-athletes have been selected as 2022 Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship recipients as Sophie Hansson (swimming), Trent Hidlay (wrestling) and Eric Knowles (swimming) earned the award from the Atlantic Coast Conference office.
Wolfpack swimmer Julia Poole was also honored as one of nine honorary recipients of the award.
The Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following the completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.
Sophie Hansson, Swimming & Diving
A business administration major, Hansson won four NCAA titles last season, including sweeping both of the breaststroke gold medals at the 2021 meet. She is a 17-time All-American and an 11x ACC individual/relay champion across her four years at NC State. Academically, Hansson has been honored as a member of the Academic All-ACC Team each year of her career and was most recently named a CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2021.
Trent Hidlay, Wrestling
A business administration major with a perfect 4.0 at NC State, he has also been named a NWCA Scholar All-American each of his first two seasons with the Pack. Hidlay was an NCAA finalist last year, as well as the ACC Champion at 184 pounds. He currently ranks third in the nation with a perfect 15-0 record heading into next weekend's ACC Championship.
Eric Knowles, Swimming & Diving
A materials science and engineering major, Knowles has earned All-America honors six times in his career and has been named an ACC individual/relay champion twice. In the midst of his fifth season with the Wolfpack, Knowles is a four-time Academic All-ACC and CSCAA Scholar All-American and has also been honored for his success in the classroom with three CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Julia Poole, Swimming & Diving
A communications major, Poole was part of the Wolfpack's 400-yard medley relay national title team. She has earned All-America honors eight times in her five-year NC State career and was also the 200-yard individual medley ACC Champion in 2019. Academically, Poole has been an Academic All-ACC Team member and a CSCAA Scholar All-American every year of her collegiate career.
This year's class of postgraduate scholarship recipients will be highlighted in a one-hour show on the ACC Network that will air in May.
