TEMPE, Ariz. – Just a month into 2022 dual match play, NC State women's tennis added to an already-large collection of historic moments by earning the highest national ranking in program history. The Wolfpack was ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA Top 25.
The Wolfpack reached a No. 3 national ranking in March of 2020 which stood as its previous best mark ahead of Wednesday's poll. NC State has been a mainstay in the national top 15 since Feb. 26, 2019.
NC State's new ranking comes on the heels of a victory over then-No. 3 Texas on Sunday. The victory tied as the highest ranked win in program history and was even more impressive considering the contest being on the road and a rematch of last year's NCAA Final Four against the reigning national champion.
The squad is off to its best start in program history with an 11-1 record as it next turns its focus to conference play. NC State has defeated six nationally-ranked opponents in its first 12 matches, with a pair of those wins coming against top-three teams.
Four Wolfpack players were featured in the latest release of the national singles rankings - Jaeda Daniel (No. 9), Alana Smith (No. 20), Abigail Rencheli (No. 24) and Nell Miller (No. 112). The ranking marked the highest of Rencheli's career, and it was Miller's first time being ranked since she joined the NC State program.
In doubles, Daniel was ranked with both Miller (No. 16) and Smith (No. 47), and Rencheli and Amelia Rajecki checked in at No. 51.
