ATLANTA, G.A. – The Wolfpack kicked off the 2022 ACC Championships with a pair of medals in the 800-yard freestyle relays, and the Pack men set a new Championship Meet Record on their route to victory.Â
To open the swimming portion of the meet, Abbey Webb, Annabel Crush, Kate Moore, and Julia Poole teamed up for a 6:59.04 finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay, narrowly edging out Louisville for the silver medal. All four women split under 1:45.6, with Webb taking it out in 1:44.83 seconds, followed by Crush (1:44.42), Moore (1:44.20), and Poole (1:45.59). The time stands as the second fastest in program history.Â
Sam Hoover led off the men's relay with a time of 1:32.62, and Luke Miller (1:31.03), Eric Knowles (1:32.73), and Hunter Tapp (1:31.97) brought the team home for a first-place finishing time of 6:08.35, good for an ACC Championship Meet Record. The previous meet record was set by NC State in 2017 (6:09.82).
Both relay times were good for NCAA A cuts.
NC State's divers also opened competition at the meet, with both the women and men in action. On the one-meter, Ashton Zuburg scored 245.25 points for 13th place, Helene Synnott scored 233.60 points for 16th, and Clara Tate finished in 27th with 222.10 points.
The trio of Bayne Bennett, Patrick O'Brien, and Matt Sexton competed on the 3-meter. Bennett finished 13th with 300.90 points, O'Brien scored 286.35 for 19th, and Sexton finished 34th with 251.35 points.
NC State will continue action at the ACC Championships on Wednesday, with prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The entire day of action can be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra.
