Poor Shooting Dooms Pack in Loss to Clemson

NC State shot a season low 30.9 percent from the field
CLEMSON, S.C. – The NC State men's basketball team shot a season low 30.9 percent from the field Friday afternoon in falling to Clemson, 78-64, inside Littlejohn Coliseum.
This marked only the third game this season NC State has shot below 40 percent from the field and the Pack has fallen in all of three of them.
With the loss, NC State falls to 11-4, 1-3 in the ACC. Clemson improves to 11-3, 3-0 in the ACC.
Terquavion Smith led the Pack with 21 points, including 16 in the second half, but shot just 5-of-21 from the field, including 3-of-13 from three-point range.
Casey Morsell was the only other NC State player to finish in double figures with 13. He scored 10 of his 13 points in the opening half.
Jack Clark led NC State with 11 rebounds.
DJ Burns had five points, but fouled out in just 19 minutes.
Ebenezer Dowuona entered today's game with just six points scored on the season, but finished with nine on 4-of-6 shooting.
NC State scored just 21 points in the first half, its fewest points in the opening 20 minutes this season. The Pack shot just 21.9 percent from the field and hit only two of its final 20 attempts in the first half.
Morsell was 4-of-7 shooting in the first half, but the rest of NC State's team was just 3-of-25 from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
After a Smith three-pointer one minute into the second half brought the Pack within five, 29-24, Clemson went on an 8-0 run to stretch the lead out to 13.
The Tigers were still up 11, 61-50, with six minutes to play, when NC State made one last run to try to steal the win. The Pack went on an 11-5 run, cutting the deficit to just five points with 2:48 to go on a Morsell three-pointer, but Clemson would score the game's next 12 points to salt the game away.
Hunter Tyson led Clemson with a career-high 31 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He scored 26 of his 31 points in the second half.
NC State is back in action Wednesday night when it hosts 17th-ranked Duke at PNC Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will be televised on the ACC Network.
