RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State will honor the 40th anniversary of the 1983 National Championship team throughout the 2022-23 men's basketball season.
The Pack will wear special Adidas 1983 throwback uniforms for NC State's annual Heritage Game at Reynolds Coliseum on Tuesday, Dec. 6 against Coppin State and on Wednesday, Feb. 22 when the Pack hosts Wake Forest at PNC Arena.
The game in February against Wake Forest will serve as a reunion for the members of the 1983 championship team. The Feb. 22 date was chosen by members of the 1983 team as it allowed the most former players to be able to attend. Tickets are available for both games with a promotional Heritage Special $8 ticket available for the Heritage game.

Videos and promotions of the 1983 team's accomplishments will be played at home games throughout the season and a logo has been created to commemorate the 40th anniversary. There will also be special season ticket holder opportunities in addition.
The 1983 team is college basketball's original Cinderella. After a loss to Maryland on March 3, the 1983 NC State basketball team found itself with a 16-10 record and needing to make a run in the upcoming ACC Tournament to secure an NCAA Tournament bid.
The '83 Pack team would never lose again.
NC State won its regular season finale against Wake Forest and then defeated the Demon Deacons again in the first round of the ACC Tournament to advance to play top-seed North Carolina, led by Michael Jordan, in the semifinals. The "Cardiac Pack" knocked off the Tar Heels in overtime and then knocked off second-ranked Virginia and three-time National Player of the Year Ralph Sampson, by three points in the ACC Championship game to lock in a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
After being sent out west, NC State needed double overtime to get past Pepperdine and defeated UNLV by one point to advance to the Sweet 16. After an easy win over Utah, the Pack again survived by one point by defeating top-seed Virginia in the Elite Eight. NC State defeated Georgia in the Final Four to set up a meeting in the National Championship game with the 31-1 Houston Cougars. The Pack completed their storybook run by knocking off the heavily favored Phi Slama Jama group, 54-52, on a Lorenzo Charles dunk right before the final buzzer.
