Johnson, Brown-Turner Named to Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team

CANCUN, Mexico – Following a pair of standout performances at the 2022 Cancun Challenge, NC State's Jakia Brown-Turner and Diamond Johnson were both named to the event's All-Tournament Team.
Johnson was honored as the Cancun Challenge MVP after averaging 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and 5.5 rebounds across two games. The junior guard shot 60 percent overall against Vanderbilt and West Virginia and knocked down 8-of-11 (.727) triples at the tournament. Johnson came within striking distance of a triple-double against the Commodores with 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in that game alone, and she also scored 16 against the Mountaineers.
Brown-Turner averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds while shooting 10-of-17 (.588) overall and 4-of-7 (.571) from three-point range. She led the team in scoring against Vanderbilt with an 18-point outing, which marked her season high. She dished out six assists in that game and then followed up with a nine-point performance against West Virginia.
Both players are on a multitude of preseason watch lists for National Player of the Year in addition to being Preseason All-ACC selections. Johnson (13.6) and Brown-Turner (10.3) each average double figures in scoring this season, and both players are shooting better than 45 percent from the field through seven games.
