RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State placekicker Christopher Dunn has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2022 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award presented by the Orange Bowl. Dunn is one of four semifinalists who is perfect on field goals this season, with his 18-for-18 mark leading the nation.
Named a midseason All-American by the Associated Press, The Athletic, ESPN and CBS, Dunn holds the longest active field goal streak in the FBS with 18 and ranks second in the Power Five in field goals made. He is one of just five kickers who hasn't missed a field goal or a PAT this season and one of just 14 FBS kickers with multiple field goals of 50+ and one of just six that haven't missed beyond 50.
The Wolfpack's Mr. Automatic was named ACC Specialist of the Week and Lou Groza Star of the Week following the win over FSU and won the Groza honor again following the win over Wake Forest. NC State's career scoring leader with 455 career points and 87 field goals ranks second in ACC history in kick scoring and third in field goals. He has started all 58 games in his collegiate career.
Semifinalists were selected by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on November 29 and honored at the 31st annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Banquet on December 5 in Palm Beach County. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN during the Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, December 8.
The award is named for NFL Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Groza won four NFL championships with Cleveland and was named NFL Player of the Year in 1954. Although an All-Pro offensive lineman as well, Groza ushered in the notion that there should be a place on an NFL roster for a kicker.
