
NC State cross country heads to Charlottesville for ACC Championships

RALEIGH The North Carolina State cross country teams will begin postseason play at the ACC Championships on Friday, Oct. 28.
The meet will be hosted by the University of Virginia, with the men's race starting at 10:40 a.m. and the women starting at 11:30 a.m. The NC State women's team will be going for a seventh straight ACC title, which would tie a school record.
This year's ACC championships will feature three top-10 team women's teams and five ranked ACC teams overall. The men's side includes seven teams ranked in the top 30, including four in the top 15.

2021 ACC CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND
The NC State women's team won its sixth consecutive title last year in South Bend, the 27th overall in program history.
Kelsey Chmiel took home the first ACC title of her career at the meet, running a 20:02.7. Katelyn Tuohy finished second with a time of 20:09.9. Chmiel, Tuohy, Hannah Steelman, Alexandra Hays, Samatha Bush and Heather Holt each earned All-ACC honors.
Gavin Gaynor was first across the finish line for the NC State men, placing 17th in the 8K with a time of 24:05.6.
Gaynor was followed closely by JP Flavin, who finished in 20th with a time of 24:14.8.
PACK IN THE POLLS
The NC State women's team comes in ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll, a spot they've held the entire season. The men enter the ACC championships ranked No. 12 in the country.
LAST TIME OUT
The NC State women won the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin on October 14, edging out No. 2 New Mexico in a tiebreaker. The two teams were tied at 80, but the Pack edged the Lobos in the head-to-head matchups, 3-2. Katelyn Tuohy and Kelsey Chmiel finished 1-2 for NC State. In the men's 8K, NC State had four runners finish in the top 100, led by Brett Gardner, who finished 48th.
