GREENSBORO, N.C. -- NC State freshman Quintin McCarty was recognized by the ACC league office Tuesday as the conference's Men's Swimmer of the Week for his performance in Friday's dual meet win over Kentucky.
Marking the first ACC Men's Swimmer of the Week honor of his career, McCarty showed his dominance in the first home meet as a member of the Pack. He picked up first-place finishes in both of his individual events, leading the Pack men in scoring with 18 points at the dual meet.Â
The Colorado Springs, Colo. native started the meet with a 19.36 split on the freestyle leg of the 200-yard medley relay and just six events later, McCarty led the Wolfpack to a 1-2-3-4 sweep of the 100-yard backstroke with his winning time of 47.02 seconds. He secured his second victory of the night in the 100-yard freestyle, where his 43.43 second race once again led to the Pack claiming the top three spots. Both of his individual races mark as NCAA B cuts. The freshman rounded out the night by swimming an even faster time in the 100-yard event with his 43.13 split on the 400-yard freestyle relay helping the team secure the fastest finishing time in the field.
