RALEIGH – Head Coach Luka Slabe of NC State volleyball has announced the addition of Martyna Leoniak and Madison Williams to the 2022 roster on Friday morning.
Leoniak, native of Warsaw, Poland, comes to Raleigh after playing her freshman season at Hawai'i. With the Rainbow Wahines, Leoniak appeared in 20 matches with eight starts. She racked up 78 kills on .205 hitting, averaging 1.47 kills per set. Additionally, she registered 97 digs and 25 blocks (one solo, 24 assists).
"We are pleased to welcome 6-foot-3 Martyna Leoniak to our volleyball family. She's an outside hitter from Poland who is hardworking and humble, and will help our team in all aspects of the game," Slabe said. "All of the staff is excited to see all the hard work Martyna will put in to help her own growth as well as the team's growth and success. Withamy (welcome in Polish), Martyna!"
Throughout her freshman campaign, she would enter the game to serve and she finished the season with the second-most aces on the team with 13. One of her better performances came against CSUN on Oct. 23 where she recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 15 kills and 10 digs to go along with four blocks.
In the match against CSUN, she also racked up a match- and career-high five service aces. To top off that outstanding performance, she finished the match with an errorless hitting percentage of .469.
Williams makes her way to NC State from Texas. The Grand Prairie, Texas native played in two matches for the Longhorns after coming back from surgery. In her short stint on the court, she hit .385 with five kills in 13 errorless attacks.
"We are completing our 2022 spring roster by welcoming Madison Williams, an outside hitter from Texas," Slabe said. "Madi was a top-10 recruit in the 2020 class. She is a well-rounded player and will bring a lot of firepower to Raleigh. It will be an exciting spring to see Madison's bright personality with the rest of our team, molding to a strong, unbreakable unit."
Prior to arriving at Texas, Williams was a talented recruit as she earned 2019 AVCA Under Armour Second Team All-America and 2019 Volleyballmag.com All-American honors her senior season. Additionally, she was named to the PrepVolleyball All-American team from 2017-19.
Williams also learned a lot playing with USA as she was named to the USAV National Championship All-Tournament Team in 2017 and 2019 while being a member of the 2019 USAV Junior National Training Team.
With the addition of Leoniak and Williams, the Pack has signed five transfers for the 2022 roster. Both Leoniak and Williams will join the Wolfpack this spring.
