RALEIGH – The NC State women's tennis team has released its 2022 dual match schedule, as announced by head coach Simon Earnshaw on Tuesday.
The full match schedule is posted on GoPack.com, and more match times will be added as soon as possible. Home matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center are free to attend, and fans will be required to wear masks for any matches played indoors as noted in the University's Community Standards.
The Wolfpack is coming off its best season in program history during which it reached the NCAA Final Four and finished with its best-ever national ranking of No. 6.
HEARING FROM THE HEAD COACH:
"The goal this season was to provide the most challenging schedule possible and for us to try and pick up where we left off last season," said Earnshaw. "After a hidden dual at Miami, we get going right out of the gate with what I expect to be two fantastic top-15 home matches against Princeton and Ohio State.
"Then, there's no let-up with us hosting Northwestern, Wake Forest and Iowa State for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, followed by a pair of familiar SEC opponents for us on the road at Tennessee and at home against South Carolina. We then travel to Kansas for the finale of a four-match set that's been delayed since 2019 and finish up that road trip with a rematch of last season's NCAA Final Four at Texas on Feb. 20.
"All of this should have us thoroughly battle tested for the week-in, week-out grind of the ACC. Coming off a 2021 season that saw six ACC squads finish in the nation's top 10, I don't expect any let-up in the rigor that makes this the best conference in the nation. We haven't hosted Florida State and Miami many times in conference play in recent years, but we start out with them in early March. This season, we also face Wake Forest, Duke, UNC and Louisville at home and conclude regular-season action with Senior Day on Sunday, April 17 against Notre Dame.
"Going into this spring, all of us are mindful that it continues to be a very difficult time globally. After the 2020 season was canceled midway through, we're not taking anything for granted. We're going to have to be extremely vigilant and disciplined as a program on a daily basis and then be prepared to adapt to any changes and disruptions that might occur in the coming weeks. With that said, it's super exciting to be on the verge of another season and for all of us involved to once again have the opportunity to represent NC State to the highest level possible. That's something that never gets old. Go Pack!"
SCHEDULE QUICK HITS:
NC State is slated to host 15 home matches at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, which includes hosting the ITA Kick-Off Weekend for the third season in a row.
In total, the Wolfpack will take on 18 teams that finished last season ranked in the final edition of the ITA Rankings. Seven of those teams ended the 2021 campaign ranked in the national top seven, and at least nine of the Pack's opponents were national top 25 teams last year.
Last season, the Pack finished the year 20-6 (10-3 ACC). The team earned its fifth-straight NCAA Championships bid and made its program-best run to the national semifinal after rallying off wins against VCU, No. 36 Iowa State, No. 35 USC and No. 3 Georgia.
Individually, the Wolfpack was represented by a pair of singles players and two doubles tandems at the 2021 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships. Fifth-year senior Anna Rogers made the deepest individual run in program history as she advanced to the singles quarterfinal. She and doubles partner Alana Smith then continued their historic season by reaching the doubles semifinal.
Both that duo and the pair of Adriana Reami and Jaeda Daniel were named doubles All-Americans, and Rogers cemented her status as a singles All-American as well.
