LOS ANGELES – NC State women's basketball senior Elissa Cunane is one of 20 players nationwide to be featured on the John R. Wooden Award Late Season Watch List, as announced by the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Monday evening.
The All-American center has previously been named a finalist on the Wooden Award National Ballot in both 2019-20 and 2020-21. She is one of two ACC players on this year's late season watch list.
Cunane averages 13.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game to lead a Wolfpack squad that is 19-2 on the season and has secured five victories over nationally-ranked opponents in 2021-22. She is putting up her scoring average while shooting 51 percent (104-of-204) from the field and averaging just 24.6 minutes of playing time.
A native of Summerfield, N.C., Cunane has scored in double figures in a team-leading 15 games this season, highlighted by her season-high 23 points against Duke on Jan. 16. That outing marked the most recent of three 20+ point games she's put together amidst a well-balanced offensive attack by NC State. She has posted six double-doubles this season, with four of those coming in ACC play, to put her career total at 31.
In the midst of her fourth season with the Wolfpack, Cunane is climbing the Wolfpack record books in multiple categories. She set the program record for career free throws earlier this year and has upped that mark to 469. She is also ninth all-time in career points (1,649) and career rebounds (882), with both of those numbers ranking in the top 35 among active NCAA Division I women's basketball players.
Later in the season, the Los Angeles Athletic Club will send this year's final National Ballot of 15 players to its group of voters. The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament, and the winner of the 2022 John R. Wooden Award will be presented by Wendy's following the NCAA Tournament in April.
