Three from Wolfpack to Compete at Cary ATP Challenger

RALEIGH - The NC State men's tennis squad is set to continue its fall 2021 season at the Cary ATP Challenger Sept. 14-17 with three members of the squad competing. Luca Staeheli tabbed a wildcard spot in the singles main draw while Damien Salvestre and Robin Catry claimed a wildcard berth in doubles play.

Former member of the Wolfpack Alexis Galarneau began action at the event Sunday, Sept. 12 in the singles qualifying round, and current volunteer assistant coach Alex Lawson is slated to compete with Robert Galloway as the three-seed in doubles competition.

Staeheli will begin his Cary ATP Challenger campaign with a matchup against Mukund Sasikumar, who is currently 392nd in singles. Salvestre and Catry are scheduled to begin doubles action with a matchup against the fourth-seeded duo of Christian Harrison and Dennis Novikov.

LAST TIME OUT
NC State opened its 2021 fall schedule at the Gator Fall Invite, where it collected nine singles wins and seven doubles wins over three days of play. Yannai Barkai, Catry and Braden Shick each posted ranked wins in singles at the tournament.

PACK IN THE RANKINGS
Rafa Izquierdo Luque begins his junior campaign as the only Wolfpack singles player in the preseason ITA rankings, checking in at 82nd. In the doubles rankings, Barkai and Shick tabbed a top-50 spot at No. 49.

Staeheli was named to the ITA's list of top-10 newcomers for 2021 at No. 3.
