
Six Wolfpack Swimmers, Three NC State Alumni Named to 2021-22 U.S. National Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A total of nine current and former NC State swimmers were named to the 2021-22 USA Swimming National Team, as announced by the organization on Friday.
Current Wolfpack student-athletes Katharine Berkoff, David Curtiss, Ross Dant, Will Gallant, James Plage and Hunter Tapp earned spots on the team for the next season, and NC State alumni Ryan Held, Justin Ress and Coleman Stewart also joined them on the roster. Berkoff, Held and Ress were all members of the 2020-21 U.S. National Team.
The athletes were chosen by ranking among the six fastest swimmers in their respective event(s) from all USA Swimming or FINA-sanctioned competitions this calendar year.

Berkoff – 100 backstroke (58.62)
Curtiss – 50 freestyle (21.87)
Dant – 400 freestyle (3:48.30), 800 freestyle (7:50.66)
Gallant – 800 freestyle (7:53.76)
Held – 50 freestyle (21.62), 100 freestyle (48.07)
Plage – 800 freestyle (7:56.87)
Ress – 100 backstroke (52.86)
Stewart – 100 butterfly (51.54)
Tapp – 200 backstroke (1:56.76)

All of NC State's swimmers were finalists in at least one of their events at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials that took place in June. Dant led the way with third-place finishes in both distance free races, and Stewart (100 butterfly) and Berkoff (100 backstroke) followed behind with fourth-place finishes at the national meet.
